The circumference of the trunk is about 24 meters and its age is estimated at 2400 years, as experts assert that in every measure correspond 100 years. It is bulky, has huge branches and dense foliage covering the entire square. Next to the tree, there are two sources that run with gurgling water all year round. This tree during its long history has witnessed countless historical events. He was the center of social and intellectual life of the country. It is known that Nikos Kazantzakis spent several summers of 1910-1920 decade with his friends in the village, which was the birthplace of his wife Galatea Alexiou . In the square there are three ancient trees. The planes are the ornaments of the village. More important is the tree located in the center of the square, the old-tree, like they say, considered the oldest and most majestic of Crete. Is itself an entire ecosystem and is an attraction for visitors of the village coming from afar to admire, next to the beautiful arched fountains. The monumental tree located in Krasi Mallia in Crete and was declared a natural monument by presidential decree, issued on 08.29.2011.

 

Panagia Kera

Moni Kera Kardiotissa located 50km southeast of Heraklion, in a wooded area of North Dikti, near the road leading to the Plateau. This is a historic monastery, from which they get their name the villages Kera and Ano Kera. The beautiful stone-built church of the monastery is dedicated to the Nativity of Mary (September 8). The present church was constructed in four phases. Initially, single aisle and was later expanded with two naves and a smaller chapel. Characteristic are very old frescoes of the 14th century.Because of its fortified position, during the Cretan revolutions were the revolutionary center of Eastern Plain and was often retaliation the Turks. Today Kera operates as a nunnery. It is worth a visit, combined with a walk to the Lasithi Plateau.

 

Lasithi Plateau

Lassithi Plateau is one of the few areas in the Mediterranean with permanent inhabitants at an altitude over 800 metres.Lassithi plateau is 11 kilometres on the east-west axis and 6 kilometres on the north-south - an area of 25 square kilometres.Have your camera loaded as there are many photo opportunities, especially early in the morning and in late afternoon.

 

 Cave of Zeus

The Dikteon Cave (or Dikteon Andron or Dictaean Cave) is one of the most important and famous of the 3,000 caves in Crete and the 8,500 in Greece.It is in the impressive Dikteon Cave, rich in stalagmites and stalactites, that Zeus was born according to legend. This is why the Dikteon Cave was already famous in antiquity, dedicated to the worship of the greatest of the gods, as the many offerings found there indicate.In our days the Dikteon Cave continues to receive many visitors, no longer worshippers, of course, but travellers from all over the world.
